North Myrtle Beach was created in 1968 with the consolidation of Cherry Grove Beach, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive Beach, and Windy Hill Beach. As of the 2010 census, the population was 13,752, and in 2019 the estimated population was 16,819. The city is located in eastern Horry County. It is bordered to the southwest by Briarcliffe Acres and to the northeast by Little River. The area is divided into four separate areas based on its former municipalities. Atlantic Beach chose to remain its own town during the merger. It serves as one of the primary tourist destinations along the Grand Strand. It has a public library, a public park, and a state park. It was the site of the World War II Battle of the Bulge, which took place in World War I. The U.S. National Guard is based in the city. It also has a military base in the nearby town of Conway, South Carolina, which is home to the South Carolina Army National Guard. The military base is also home to South Carolina's Army Air and Navy Air National Guard, which has a base in Little River, North Carolina, and an air base in Conway. The National Guard has a presence in the town of Little River as well as in Conway, Conway, Little River and Little River Neck. The town is located about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Myrtle beach and 57 miles (92 km) southwest of Wilmington, North North Carolina. The population of the city in 2000 was 10,974.
History
North Myrtle Beach is the primary city name, but also Atlantic Bch, Atlantic Beach, Cherry Grove, Cherry Grove Beach, N Myrtle Bch, Ocean Drive are acceptable city names or spellings, Crescent Beach, N Myrtle Beach, Ocean Dr Beach, Ocean Drive Beach on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. North Myrtle Beach was created in 1968 with the consolidation of Cherry Grove Beach, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive Beach, and Windy Hill Beach. In 1737, William Gause obtained a grant to 250 acres (100 ha) of land near WindyHill Beach. He farmed the area and also established a tavern for travelers along the Kings Highway. The beach was named after North Myrtle, South Carolina, a town in the state's eastern part. It is located on the South Carolina-South Carolina border. The town was founded in 1737 and was named for the town's founder, William Gause, who lived in the area in the 1730s and 1740s. It was the first beach in South Carolina to be named after a woman. The city's name is derived from North Myrtle Beach, which means "beautiful place" or "beauty beach" in the local dialect. The current name of the beach comes from the word "myrtle" which means "beautiful" or "beach". The town's name was first recorded in 1738. The first beach to be called North Myrtle was called "Cherry Grove" in 1739. The name North Bermuda Beaches was added in 1740. North Saints Beachers were added to the list of beaches in 1750. The city was named after the town of North Mercy, South Carolina in the 1750s.

These are Windy Hill, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive, and Cherry Grove, a spit bordering North Carolina. Atlantic Beach chose to remain its own town during the merger of the two cities. The city is located 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Myrtle beach and 57 miles (92 km) southwest of Wilmington, North Carolina, and is 67 miles (108 km) southeast of Interstate 95 near Dillon, South Carolina. It has a population of 2,816. It was once known as "Myrtle Beach" before the city was annexed by South Carolina in the 1950s and 1960s by the state of South Carolina and by the U.S. state of Georgia in the 1970s and 1980s. The town is located on the banks of the Little River River, a tributary of the Waccamaw River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. It also has a number of beaches, including Little River Neck, Ocean Creek, and Seabrook Plantation, which are bordered on three sides by the city. The area was once a separate town called Atlantic Beach, which was annexed in the 1960s and 1970s.

The racial makeup of the city was 94.50% White, 2.31% African American, 0.47% Native American,0.64% Asian, 1.06% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. Arts and culture
North Myrtle Beach has a public library, a branch of the Horry County Memorial Library. The library is located in the center of the town. The town is home to a number of cultural institutions, including a museum and a museum of African-American history. It is also the home of the North Carolina Museum of Art, which was established in 1872. Education
North Myrtle Beach High School (in nearby Little River) is located in the city's downtown area. Ocean Drive Elementary School and Riverside Elementary School are nearby. North Myrtle beach Middle School is also in the area. The city's high school is located near the Little River area of the city. The school district also has a middle school and high school in the town's downtown. The high school was built in the 1950s. It is located on the banks of the Waccamaw River. The town is home to the South Carolina Museum of History, which was founded in 1867. The museum is still open to the public today.
